SUMMARY:Mic Hike
DESCRIPTION:Ecolture will host a sunset hike in Griffith Park to the Wisdom Tree\, coupled with an open mic and writing workshop that will feature poets reading their work during the hike up and a creative writing session and readings at the summit. Participants will experience a unified narrative featuring the history of the area and themes of the environment and climate change in an event that is fully participatory\, giving voice to each participant and valuing their stories within a choreographed creative space. The event will seek to highlight and build bridges between poetry and hiking communities in Los Angeles\, and between the arts and nature in general. \nThe Wisdom Tree\, our destination\, is a lone tree that survived the wildfires on its summit. People come from near and far to leave messages\, wishes\, and prayers at the base of the tree\, making it a site of secular pilgrimage that already links personal experiences with nature. \nMicHike had a successful pilot run on October 18 and is set\, following this\, to be a regular event series with Ecolture.

SUMMARY:Tell Your Story to Mother Earth
DESCRIPTION:Everyone has a story of their time spent on Mother Earth. There are fond memories and then there are those we’d rather forget. We also have a vision of how we foresee our future in cohabitation with the Mother. This storytelling ceremonial ritual is offered for participants to: \n\nConnect to an original memory on the earth\nHonor your grief and/or release gratitude regarding that memory\nSpeak to a powerful new vision that they would like to carry forward\n\nParticipants will sit in a circle surrounded by an altar that represents Mother Earth. Facilitator will open the program and set the stage for the ceremony by giving thanks to the ancestors and calling upon the wisdom and energy of the 7 directions. This creates a sacred\, safe and viable space for the stories to be shared and received. The program will be 75 to 90 minutes. Actual storytelling will be anywhere from 15-30 minutes. Depending upon the number of people in attendance\, storytelling may be done individually\, in groups of one or two witnesses or in tandem where everyone is sharing together at once. Each participant writes down their commitment and places it on the Mother Earth altar as an offering. Facilitator will give time for participants to offer prayers to the Mother and then the ceremony will be closed. \nFacilitator will lastly introduce the concept of collective leadership circles to the group. Collective leadership is when people gather together for a common cause to share their wisdom\, experience\, ideas and vision. They work together collective through a process of sharing\, brainstorm and planning to actualize the vision. There are no leaders of the group assigning tasks and project. This process happens naturally within the group process. The group discovers the common interest through a process of consensus and gather together to realize and manifest their vision.

SUMMARY:Steppin' Into the Art of Mar Vista
DESCRIPTION:This art walk is intended as a showcase of the great outpouring of all local Mar Vista arts — visual\, music\, dance\, performance and interactive media — and will feature live painting to the accompaniment of music and even a burlesque. Great food and drink. We are mounting our inaugural Mar Vista art walk — Steppin’ Into the Art of Mar Vista\, on Thursday\, December 3\, 2015\, 6-9P\, along the 1-mile stretch of Venice Blvd. between Inglewood Bl – Beethoven St. \nOne of our goals is to get people out of their cars by improving the walkability of our communities. Art zones with art walks are a proven way to get people walking and engaging locally. Many of our artists have incorporated sustainability into their participation. For example\, the artistic duo known as Babak (Mitchelito Orquiola + Chalavie) have painted a used billboard wrap and repurposed it to promote the event (Venice Bl @ Grand View Av). There are art scavenger hunts with recycled plastic household items upcycled as art. \nImage by Tomas Medina.

SUMMARY:"Wake Up" Community Climate Arts Mural
DESCRIPTION:A large collaborative narrative mural entitled “Wake-Up” is on display at the Amity Foundation. This painting was created by a group of 10 talented Amity Foundation residents. It depicts the group’s expression of a world where they and future generations can thrive. Their interactive art experience began with a Pachamama Alliance workshop giving them a chance to tune in with the state of our world today\, their feelings about it\, and their potential as “change makers” in it. \nAmity Foundation is reconnecting individuals who have been “thrown away” in foster care\, juvenile and adult prisons\, and mental institutions with healthy food\, source separation\, waste reduction\, product stewardship\, and alternative gardening practices. Creating safe and therapeutic spaces that shine a light on the parallels between the macrocosm (planet) and microcosm (individual) to inspire change through the conservation of natural resources\, that slowly shift wasteful behavior to a more sustainable one. \nMural is on view December 1-7\, from 9am – 5pm
