SUMMARY:H2O Tiles
DESCRIPTION:This is a team project with Roberto L. Delgado (Lead Artist)\, Leo Limon\, and Oscar Duardo. The team will create and distribute common Home Depot 4″x4″ tiles fired with a silkscreened image of “H2O” in 4 to 6 basic fonts layered over a number of photosilkscreens of people\, in about 30 unique designs. The people photos have been taken by Delgado over the past few years in Highland Park\, Cypress Park\, and Lincoln Heights. The dynamic works like a trading card\, with people comparing what tiles they have with what others have collected. They compare\, talk\, and sometimes trade. The palm-size tiles will be collectible quality and will be distributed free of charge. \nTiles will be distributed around different VisionLA Fest venues with accompanying social media announcements\, so collectors can track the latest sighting of the new H20 tile. Be the first to collect them all!

SUMMARY:Water: A Necessary Conversation
DESCRIPTION:WATER: A NECESSARY CONVERSATION is an “Art as Activism” exhibition at Avenue 50 Studio in Los Angeles. Curated by art historian Susan M King\, it features select contemporary works and historical posters from the Collection of Center for the Study of Political Graphics. The exhibition includes artworks by over 25 contemporary artists working in an array of media including posters\, painting\, prints\, video\, and photography. \nThe exhibition brings together contemporary art and past posters focused on water as a vital and limited resource. The artworks chosen are meant as a social lever around a range of water conservation issues. As King notes: “While some of the contemporary art explicitly raises questions about the role of individuals and institutions in managing the current water crisis\, other works focus on personal observations and political concerns. The combination of past and present art underscores the enduring human need to manage water resources\, and the usefulness of art in conveying that message.” \nThe exhibition is sponsored by the Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art. \nGallery hours are: Tue-Thurs\, 10am-4pm and Sat-Sun\, 10am-4pm \nA closing conversation addressing short and long range solutions to the water crisis will be held on Saturday\, December 5\, 1:30-3:30pm. The panel will feature artists Mariona Barkus\, Danielle Eubank\, Brenda Hurst\, Ann Isolde and Sheila Pinkel from the collective “Artists Formerly Known as Women.” Curator Susan King will be the moderator.
